Suffolk Woman Driving Drunk Crashes Into Patrol Vehicle, Police Say

A Long Island woman has been accused of driving while intoxicated after allegedly slamming into a police car that was stopped at a crash site with its emergency lights on.

Danielle Schimmel was arrested around 10:36 p.m., Thursday, July 15, following the crash in Ronkonkoma, said the Suffolk County Police. 

According to police, Schimmel, age 27, was driving a 2019 GMC Adacia northbound on Ocean Avenue, when she crashed the vehicle into a parked patrol car facing east that was blocking traffic with emergency lights activated, at the scene of an earlier motor vehicle crash.

Schimmel, of Hauppauge, was arrested and charged with DWI. 

She was held overnight and is scheduled to be arraigned in Central Islip on Friday, July 16.
